An Introduction
The Northumbrian Adventurers' Guild is a wargaming and roleplaying club based in Blyth, Northumberland and a member of the Gaming Club Network. We meet every Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00 in the upper room of St Cuthbert's Church Hall, our Monday and Friday night roleplay sessions start from 18:00 and take place in the mezzanine level - we recommend visiting for the first time on a Sunday afternoon, this is our busiest time and there's always something to do. Our weekly subscription is £3 for non-members (your first visit is free) and £2 for members, annual membership costs £5 (that week's subscription is included in the joining fee which is reduced to £2.50 after October 1st) and expires on the first Sunday of April.
The club has a grand tradition of encouraging new players to the hobby and we are happy to help out wherever we can, some of our most experienced gamers played their first battles at the club and are still going strong today. We welcome gamers of all ages but we do ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult. We understand that building an army these days can be a costly and time consuming endeavor, with that in mind we don't insist that wargaming figures are painted but we do encourage people to do what they can and from time to time painting competitions are held to allow our players to showcase their efforts.
The wargames we play include Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Flames of war, Necromunda, Mordheim, Inquisitor, Man O' War, Bloodbowl, Confrontation, Warhammer Historical, Napoleonic, Fire & Fury American Civil War to name but a few. Our roleplay library includes such games as Dungeons a Dragons (DnD/ADnD) from 2nd to 3.5 edition and Pathfinder, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP), Dark Heresy, Paranoia and Order of the Stick although we have played a great many other titles over the years (Deadlands, Cyber Punk, Dark Conspiracy, Call of Cthulhu).
A Little Bit of History
The Northumbrian Adventurers' Guild was established in December 1984 in the back room of the Ridley Hotel; 2 of the original founding members are still members! The first meeting was held in the games room of Blyth Sports Centre's in January 1985, first edition Dungeons and Dragons was played and the first of our legendary characters rolled. The Club relocated to Newsham Library where we enjoyed a number of successful years, branching out into wargaming and expanded our selection of roleplay games proved to be a great driving force and we saw our membership grow.
Sadly, the library closed and was demolished in October 2008. Facing the loss of our gaming room we embarked on a search for a new building, St. Cuthbert's church hall proved to be the perfect venue for our hobby and has allowed us to become one of the largest wargaming clubs in the North East!
